Most memorable for me are Lebowski and Talented Mr Ripley. Personally I prefer his supporting work to the leading roles but recognize that he was too much of a presence and raw talent to play “smaller” parts forever. And there wasn’t like…an alternate, slightly more preferable-to-me Hoffman to take them up. Think we (or I) as a psyche can tend to imagine a parallel ideal that might one-up something unique that isn’t quite our flavour.
I had to go to IMDB to remind me of his list. Can’t pick a favourite, but I know I’ve liked him in everything I’ve seen him in.
